The famous Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has just reacts to the message passed by Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, to some sect leaders and members.
Zulum recently tried to persuade them to turn away from their violent ways, to embrace peace and return to normal life.
By Sunday evening, Ahmad Salkida, a journalist well known for his intimacy to the sect, said that he has turned down the advice.
He tweeted via his profile, @A_Salkida, the reporter wrote: “Shekau, said in a recorded audio in Kanuri and Hausa which shows that he declined the governor’s peace offer.
“In a soft tone, uncharacteristic of Shekau, said the war was just about to get started. He said firmly that his group was not ready to give up arms, chiding the governor for ‘misinterpreting’ a verse.
“According to Shekau: His members that want to leave, “know that is about Allah, it is not about any human being.”
“Informed the analysts considered to give the exchange for good sign and also advised the governor not to stop engaging the insurgents at all necessary levels.”
We got information from DAILY POST that the Boko Haram insurgency recently clocked 10 years in July 2019.
Over the last few years, the conflict has claimed the lives of 27,000 civilians and destroyed entire communities, villages and towns across the three most-affected states.
Nigeria’s humanitarian crisis still remains among one of the most severe in the world with 7.1 million people in need of life-saving assistance and 1.8 million people uprooted from their homes – the vast majority of them women and children.
“The crisis that was created ten years ago is still far from over,” Edward Kallon, United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, said recently.
“We came here today to regain the memory of those who have lost their lives in the conflict, and to remind those that are still struggling to survive and regain their previous lives.
“Ten years on, it is not the time for us to relax but give in more effort. In this very critical period, we must collectively redouble efforts, with support at all levels – locally, nationally and internationally.”
